Feeling Cheated
Been almost a year now since my last post. Lot has happened and there are so many things I wanted to and want to write about. But till now my laziness got the better of me. I hope I will be more proactive from now on.
During the past year, Badminton has changed my life in a big way. It has helped me lose quite a bit of weight (yipeee) and has also bought some wonderful people in my life. Most of my weekend nights are spent with them. Be it dinner, movie, bowling, pool or a simple get together at someone's house. I wish we would keep in touch for life. But that is wishfull thinking. This post is concerning a problem of one of my badi friends. And since the time he has told me about it, I have been feeling very sad for him. Not to mention anger for the person who landed him in this fix.
So today after our practise session, my friend (say A) started talking about his problem. Currently he is enrolled in the MS program and wanted to graduate in summer. He is left only with his Master's project. One of the profs had agreed to be his advisor for the project. So A makes the project proposal and goes to the prof to get his signature. But our good old prof refuses to sign his proposal. The reason A got from him, "I have too many Master Project students under me for Summer". The situation might have been understandable if the prof would have not said the same thing to about 30 other students. I felt so bad for A. A just got cheated by te prof. I mean how difficult is it to keep track of how many students one has for Masters project. How difficult it is to judge how many students can you guide in a given semester ? And even the administrative staff of our department was of no help to him.
Because of this profs mismanagement, A might have to delay his graduation by an entire semester. He is being forced to take classes instead of the project. Not only will he be forced to pay for an extra course, but also deprived the chance of doing a project, which in my opinion is more helpful in finding a job. I will be talking about this with the chair of our department. I dont know how seriously he will take it, but its worth the shot. I hope something good comes out of it. If not for A, atleast for students who would want to do Masters project under that prof.
